Why Science?
Science Statistics
China "cranks out" nearly 1,000,000 (yes,
ONE MILLION) Engineers a year
India graduates 350,000 per year
America graduates 75,000 a year (at best)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Why does that matter?
"United States is a country of lawyers and
business executives, not engineers. So where
will our competiviness come from? How will we
out-innovate countries that are graduating five,
ten, maybe 15 times as many engineers as we
are?…"
"Imagine if the next Microsoft is founded in
China, rather than the U.S. Ninety-five percent of
the desktop computing would be controlled by
people who might not be our allies…"
"…foreign competitors could emerge superior in:
automotives, energy, medical, defense,
software, consumer electronics, factory
automation, genetic engineering…""…60% of
adults in the United States say they aren't sure
what engineers do, which bodes poorly for
children who might otherwise consider technical
paths…"
